The Mooring Minute: Understanding Why What You Do Matters!
“Those who know WHAT they do tend to work harder. Those who know WHY tend to work smarter.”
Many start out boating and are taught what to do, to adjust this and to pull that. Actual teaching is when you go beyond what to why?
To know why what we do matters. So many crews are technicians or go because they are obligated to do so. They react to a situation and adjust not knowing why the issue happened and or what’s the best course of action required for that specific situation, as every situation and every season on boating is different. No two conditions are the same. So in reacting and working hard at doing something which is not 100 percent correct as it should be, knowing why allows each crew to respond and be 100 percent accurate as they know what it is they are reacting to!
To stay on track, remember to follow the five A’s of fleet management; to ask, (ask yourself are we making gains on those around us) answer, (yes or no) act, (adjust your sails or angle of heel or point), acknowledge ( did what we just do work?) and adjust, (do something, tack, correct and get back into the game) your way around each situation and each leg of each course! So Ask, Answer, Act, Acknowledge and Adjust!
The game is in front as the best in all of us lies ahead. So work smarter to get what it is you desire to achieve~
So untie the ties which are holding you back and head out and build your legacy!
